Vyby

Vyby is a free Mobile App, initially available to download on Android phones, providing the user with a ‘Mobile Guide to Derby’.

Every time the App is opened it refreshers, therefore users can always view the latest up to the minute offers and event information.  Users are able to filter and sort offers and events by rating (vibe), distance or time.  The rating shows the average rating (out of 5) that all other users have ranked a particular offer or event whereby distance shows users the closest offers to them based on their current location at any one time.  For offers, then the time filter lists the most recently added offer first and for events it lists events in date and time order of when each event is taking place.

Derby has been chosen as the pilot City for Vyby, and boast are pleased to announce our involvement with Vyby, acting as Vyby’s Marketing Agency and tasked with generating interest and take up of the App from both an advertiser and user perspective.

In the Apps short existence so far, which saw it launch on Saturday 15th September, we’ve already seen over 100 people download the App and also have between 15 – 20 varied advertisers trialing the App by putting live their own offer and event information.  These trial advertisers range from bars, clubs, coffee shops, music venues, restaurants, fast food outlets, plus a sports centre, cinema, art gallery as well as a hairdressers.

One of the key benefits from an advertisers point of view is that not only can they control themselves what messages go out and when, but they can also chose who sees their messages by being able to select from a number or demographic filters, including; sex, age and location, with the latter meaning that only users who open the App within a certain proximity to the location of the advertiser being able to see their message/s (e.g. within 2 miles).

Alfreton Town FC

This month ‘boast sponsorship’ is pleased to announce that we are working alongside Alfreton Town Football Club. Alfreton are launching the second phase of their Community Academy initiative – giving local young people the chance to gain sports leadership qualifications through a pioneering apprenticeship programme.

The Club, which was promoted last season to the Blue Square Bet Premiere Division, is working with Derby College to recruit the apprentices and support them through their qualifications.

Four apprentices recently started their programmes at Alfreton Town FC and recruitment has now started to recruit a further 20 apprentices.

The aim is to have up to 40 apprentices at the club in the next 12 months who will be working full time with local schools and community groups to provide free or low cost sporting activities for children and young people whilst working towards NVQ level three qualifications in Activity Leadership.

Alfreton Town Development Director John Glasby explained: “When we were promoted last season, we wanted to get the community more involved in the football club and for ourselves to become more involved in the community.

“We decided the best way was through setting up a Community Academy and have worked with Derby College who have done an excellent job recruiting the apprentices and organising the training.

“Although there are no guaranteed jobs for the apprentices at the end of the programme, these qualifications are designed to be extremely flexible for all sorts of industries – from sport and leisure to tourism and childcare

“There will also be opportunities for the apprentices to play football – combining their playing aspirations with their community work and vocational qualifications – the best of every world.”

Although Mansion has been open for less than a year, they have already built up an impressive reputation, and it’s no surprise that they have recently been shortlisted for two categories in the Derby Food & Drink Awards, these being; “Best newcomer” and “Derby restaurant of the year” in addition to the “Best customer service” award.

Mansion prize themselves on providing a relaxed, contemporary fine dining & wine bar experience, which is all about high quality, great tasting food and drink, using the finest local ingredients.   For more information visit Mansion’s website.

Through their association with this years festival, Mansion are offering a 20% discount off the food bill for any customers who either mention Derby Festé when booking or who bring in a copy of the festival programme, which displays this offer within.

When speaking with Mansion about their sponsorship of the festival they said; “We are over the moon to be supporting Derby Festé 2011.  When we were approached to support the festival, we jumped at the opportunity.  The event has been a huge success over the past few years and reflects on the city in an incredibly positive manner.  As we are a relatively new business, it made total sense to align ourselves with Derby Festé.  The festival and of course the people behind it represent all that’s best about Derby and we see ourselves emulating this with what we do at Mansion.

Derby deserves recognition for what it’s doing!  Although there are thing happening in the City that many of us are not happy about right now, we at Mansion want to focus on as many positives as possible.  Derby Festé is one such positive!  It brings flare, colour and real vibrancy to the City.  It’ll be a great event and we hope the run up creates a real sense of positive energy that we can all take advantage of!”

Pip Hare

Pip Hare is an English single handed ocean racer with a growing reputation and high hopes for the future.

Pip’s current focus is on the Mini Transat which starts on Sunday 25th September and will see this year’s competitors head from La Rochelle to Salvador, Brazil, with a quick stopover in Funchal (Madeira) and covers well over 4,000 nautical miles, taking around 4 weeks to complete.

Pip’s boat for the Mini Transat is 21 foot in length and is named “The Potting Shed”. As the boats are the smallest type of off-shore racing boats, the race makes for interesting viewing and it’s expected that around 250,000 people will pass through the race village in La Rochelle prior to the start of the race.

Pip is one of only two Brits taking part and one of just six women (see link below) out of the 80 solo sailors who are competing…

Derby Festé

boast sponsorship are proud to be working with the organisers of Derby Festé, which this year takes place on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th September 2011.

Now in its fifth year, Derby Festé is an annual festival held in and around the streets of Central Derby, bringing together an eclectic mix of world-class live cultural performances, music, film and much more, organised by three of Derby’s leading arts organisations; QUAD, Dedá and Derby LIVE.

During its relatively short existence so far, the festival has build a strong regional and national reputation as being one of the biggest and best weekends of its kind in the entire UK.  The majority of the festival and what it has on offer is free to the general public and is regarded by many as the highlight of Derby’s annual event calendar.

Derby Feste

Most of the acts and activities of Derby Festé is centred around the City’s Cathedral Quarter, which for those of you who don’t already know, is in an area that we at boast sponsorship call home. It’s important to us as a company to support local projects, events and festivals as best we can, and this is no different.

Based on the popularity of the festival (circa 35,000 attended last years Derby Festé over the course of the weekend), the opportunities we have available through the festival are not only appealing in terms of such attendee figures, though this coupled with the vast amount of media coverage and exposure the festival attracts locally and regionally each year too.

The UK Corporate Games

boast have teamed up with the organisers of the UK Corporate Games, who, over the past 18 years have created Europe’s largest corporate multi-sport festival. The 2011 games present a vast and varied range of both participation and / or sponsorship opportunities for companies.

Last years festival in Liverpool saw over 4,000 competitors from more than 100 different companies take part, with this years festival taking place at Loughborough University between Thursday 14th – Sunday 17th July 2011. With just under two months to go (at the time of writing), it’s already looking very likely that this years game will easily beat last years competitor numbers.

The facilities at Loughborough are second to none, and it’s no surprise that the University will be the official training camp for the 2012 Great Britain Olympic Team. Based on its central location and excellent transport access, the games being held in Loughborough is well placed for any national company interested in being a part of the games and not just for those who are predominantly Midlands based.

The games consist of 22 different sports, such as; football, rugby, cricket, hockey, golf, running, swimming, a number of racket sports as well as a couple of more diverse sports and events such as; dragon boat racing, karting, tenpin bowling and poker.

Whilst the following video highlights the world phenomenon of the Corporate Games it does provide a great flavour for what the UK games are all about….
